Opening Times & Prices

The House: Open daily from 11.00am (last admission 4pm) between 13 March and 31 October, and between 27 November and 19 December 2010.

Please note that on the following dates the last entry to the house will be at 3.00pm to allow us to make preparations for marriage services taking place in the Great Hall. Access to the gardens will remain as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause:

    Friday 27 August, Saturday 4 September and Saturday 11 September

Gardens, Adventure Playground, Shops and Cafés: Open daily all year from 10.00am.  The gardens close at 6.30pm (dusk in winter) with last admission 5.30opm.  The shops and cafés close at 5pm.

Other essential information for visitors

Babies and Toddlers: Pushchairs are not permitted in the house, but can be stored in a pushchair holding area. 'Hip-seats' can be borrowed to assist in carrying children (6 months - 3 years old) through the House. Nappy changing facilities can be found in the house, lakeside and courtyard toilets.

Dogs: Dogs on leads are welcome in the gardens. 

Fountains: These are switched on daily between 10.30am until 4.00pm when the House is open (except Christmas). However, due to fluctuating water levels they may not be operating at all times.

Photographic Policy: Photography is permitted within the House and gardens for personal use only.  In the House, no tripods are permitted and we also request that you are considerate to other visitors, therefore if you can use your camera without flash it would be much appreciated.  If  you wish to take commercial photography please visit our Media Room for details.

Height Restrictions at the Gate House: To reach Castle Howard from the A64 you are required to negotiate a Gate House. Please note that height restrictions do apply and any vehicles over 3.43m high x 2.60m wide should access Castle Howard via Malton and Coneysthorpe. Brown signs will direct you from Malton town centre.
