Castle Howard's beautiful interiors will feature in the BBC's upcoming production of P D James' ‘Death Comes to Pemberley’ due to air at 8.15pm on BBC1 on Boxing Day.
Starring Matthew Rhys and Anna Maxwell-Martin, the two week shoot in July 2013 saw the interior of the house transformed into Pemberley with many scenes filmed in the bedrooms and South Front rooms. Locations included the Antique Passage and Great Hall, the Turquoise Drawing Room and Crimson Dining Room, as well as Lady Georgiana's Bedroom, the Castle Howard Bedroom and the Archbishops Room.
The production team behind the new drama were drawn to the 'family feel' and intimacy of Castle Howard, which they thought was particularly suited to portray the home of Elizabeth and Mr Darcy six years into their marriage. Scenes were also filmed in the Walled Garden, Temple of the Four Winds and Ray Wood. Castle Howard was used the film location for Death Comes to Pemberley for two weeks in July 2013.
