When Vanbrugh designed Castle Howard he was proud of how the state rooms faced south to take advantage of daylight; but he was also delighted by the warmth and atmosphere indoors in candlelight at the end of the day.

This evening tour led by the curators will turn the clock back to how Castle Howard looked before the electric age, and how flickering candlelight creates an entirely different experience when moving through the corridors and rooms and looking at the treasures on display. This tour lasts two hours.
